Born of another world, Ares is the youngest of two twin warlock brothers that inhabit
the same body. Ironically, he is more gentle and soft spoken, despite his name. Azariah
is the eldest of the two and is imprisoned within Ares’ body for his past crimes.
Neither can be awake at the same time, with Ares having most of the spotlight. Cursed
to roam this way for eternity, one without the other, Azariah spends his time in the light
trying to find ways of separating the two. Longing to be with his twin, Azariah fights and
kills his way through whomever stands in his way. Meanwhile, Ares struggles with
amnesia and tries his best to keep his more violent twin under control.
Neither of them can remember where they came from or how they came to be stuck
this way, but Ares knows that he must keep his twin from surfacing, or terrible things
could happen. What he doesn’t know, is that even though Azariah is only
supposed to be able to surface for 48 hours a month, he has recently been able
to surface while Ares is unconscious.
Azariah has an unhealthy obsession with his brother that often drives him to manipulate
or push others away while he is in control. He does not let anyone get too close to Ares,
and often tries to imitate his sweet little brother.
The only thing that is able to keep Azariah from using dark magic and offensive spells,
is the special collar / muzzle that Ares wears. While worn, Azariah is as docile
and dangerous as a yappy puppy.
The only way that the twins are able to communicate with one another, is through text
and written word. Azariah often leaves Ares little notes and letters for him to wake up
to, or find. Sometimes they are sweet, other times they aren’t. When things
were at their worst, Az was mad enough to carve his message on his brothers’
arms, which were also his own at the time. He later apologised and healed the wounds
out of guilt, hoping that his twin would forgive him. Although he was hurt that his brother
would do such a thing, Ares quickly forgave him, since he is a kind soul and still has
hope for his twin.
Before the merge and memory loss — the twins were an unstoppable force
against their enemies. Ares would tank using his powerful offensive spells, while
Azariah would defend and heal them both. Fighting back to back, switching
staves with one another; watching the two of them in combat was a beautiful
and mesmerizing thing. They would often take on hordes of beasts, firing spell
after spell, while sometimes even laughing. They thought that nothing could ever
break through their defenses, but the only thing that truly broke them apart,
was themselves. Azariah fed and coaxed the darker side of Ares, until he just
couldn’t take it anymore. And as his light was no longer strong enough
to overcome his older brother, Ares knew that something had to change…
